The IV International Festival of Monastic Culture "Rostov Action"

Rostov is the city with centuries-old cultural and historical traditions, it was and still remains the spiritual center of the country.

The symbol of the festival – the Angel blowing a trumpet – unites spiritual and musical components in its image. The festival is divided into two parts: medieval sacred music and the monastic way of life.

The main aim set by the festival organizers is to present the best performers and researchers of ancient Orthodox music to the public.

As part of the musical programme of the festival the concerts of ancient Christian music will take place. The authentic church hymns and spiritual verses of medieval Rus will sound as well as Byzantine spiritual songs.

The modern audience will have the unique opportunity to listen to those songs within the walls that recall and keep those ancient clear sounds.

During the festival, the museum guests can visit a book fair, master classes run on icon painting, gold sewing, producing enamel, the guests may taste dishes from monastic lean cuisine, too.
